Loneliness is a sad or depressed condition brought about by lack of companions. In this condition the lonely one thinks alone, feels alone, talks alone, and suffers a lone – as if he is all alone in the world.
Whereas we often look to men and friends to break this condition for us, it is important to realize that only God can truly overcome loneliness for us. Writing on this one Mr. Graham said, “There are thousands of lonely people who carry heavy and difficult burdens of grief, anxiety, pain and disappointment, but the loneliest soul of all is a man whose life is steeped and soaked in sin.”
In other words, sin is the primary cause of loneliness. For in sin you scare both God and men from you. Selfishness, insincerity, bad self-image, immorality, smoking and drunkenness etc. are common symptoms of a sinful life. The effect of these on your condition is clear from the fact that you are without Christ, as it is written, “unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed.
But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in the world will keep it for eternal life” (John 12:24).
Clearly, you are lonely because you love yourself too much – so much that you do not really consider God or follow men in some of the things you do. Then why not drop sin so that your life may prosper. You can do this by simply inviting Jesus Christ into your life, he will bring along all other people that matter to you, as it is written, “when a man’s ways are pleasing to the lord, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him” (Proverb 16:7).
